Excursion Destinations:  The relaxation experience on our doorstep

There are rambler's paths and nature trails leading straight from our front door. Well-marked forest trails lead to the old castle ruins of the Kastelburg and throughout the Kohlenbach valley. Enjoying wandering past traditional Black Forest farms which have been husbanded by the same families for generations. In the early morrning and evening hours there is a strong chance of seeing local game such as deer, wild boar and foxes. A secret haven of nature, yet so easily accessible.

For Strolling Round:
-1.5 km to Kollnau
A small and pretty village with supermarket, banks,and medical facilities such as chemists, doctors etc.
-2 km to Walkirch - a traditional, picturesque spa town with a delightful selection of small shops and boutiques. 
also - 18 km to Freiburg - the glorious capital of the Black Forest. This historical medieval city with its old town offers richly diverse facilities from shopping to sightseeing (e.g. Freiburg Münster)

As a destination for leisure/spa facilities, a place to live and work, and a lively bustling market town, Waldkirch is the central point of the Elz Valley. A charmingly laid out spa-park with lake borders on the very edge of the forest and offers our guests the opportunity of total relaxation in beautiful natural surroundings.

Waldkirch is also a world-famous traditional centre for the manufacture of mechanical organs. The Elz Valley Museum contains a comprehensive and fascinating range of barrel organs and fairground organs. In the year 1999 Waldkirch was able to look back on a tradition of 200 years of this unusual craft. 

Relax from stress and enjoy nature. Experience the joy of a traditional  'Walk in the Black Forest' around Kohlenbach, Kollnau and Waldkirch. If you wander up to the Kastelburg ruins, wou will be rewarded with a wonderful view across Waldkirch and the Elz Valley right across to Freiburg.

A particularly pleasant diversion for families with children is the Black Forest Zoo in Waldkirch. Here you can see one of the lagest collections of owls in Europe as well as, bears, lynxes and a range of local species. For the smallest there is even a "Stroking Experience" for children.

Excellent facilities for sport and leisure are available in Waldkirch and Kollnau. With its dominating mountain - the Kandel - there is a variation in altitude from 243 to 1243 m above sea level. As an official "Atmospheric Spa", the beautifully clean pine-fed air guarantees you a unique feeling of health and wellbeing. 

Europa-Park:
About 30 minutes by car from the hotel, German's largest leisure park offers over 100 attractions and shows. The Europa Park is open daily from from 09.00 to 18.00 from April 8 through to November 5. (Longer opening times during the high season)

Steinwasen Park:
The Black Forest Experience. A range of rides, together with summer dry-slope sledging and zoo. Open all year round. About 40 minutes by car from the hotel.

Dorotheenhütte Wolfach:
Black Forest glass-blowing history comes to life. The skilled crafts of glass-blowing and glass-grinding. Open all year round.

“Vogtsbauernhöfe”:  Black Forest Open-Air Museum
This centres around vast and picturesque traditional farm buildinga, and features a fascinating display of living and working in previous centuries. Cultural history at its most interesting and beautiful.
